Here, just wanted to share what my dear friend sent me a “Cinderella” story when she just moved to this beautiful country, Indonesia
Does that mean the prince asked her-Cinderella- to marry him-proposal?
Cinderella Story: Cinta the Noble
Once upon a time, in a small village, there was a young, orphan girl named “Cinta.” She lived with her aunt and two cousins who were very selfish. They treated Cinta like a slave. She did all the housework, cared for the garden and served her two cousins and aunt yet she never complained. She knew she must be grateful in any situation, so she quietly carried out her duties with a smile every day.
One day, there was to be a party in the King’s palace. Cinta wanted to go to the party so with her beloved mother’s gold ring, she bought a dress. When the mean aunt saw the beautiful dress, she became jealous and burned it.
Cinta was hurt by the aunt’s hateful behavior so she cried. That night in her dream she was visited by a wise, old woman with long, silver hair. The woman told her: “Tomorrow morning when you wake up, look in the wooden, kitchen cabinet where you will find a gift. Then go to the garden to find another.” The next morning, Cinta obediently opened the old cabinet and found a beautiful, white dress next to all the rags. Then she went out to the garden and saw a shining, black horse with a handmade saddle sewn from the finest leather.
That night she rode the horse to the king’s palace. The king’s son saw the magnificent horse and was curious about its rider. He saw Cinta and was surprised to see such a young girl on such a fine creature. He came closer to her to speak about the lovely animal but she became shy, jumped from the horse and ran away.
The next day, the prince searched for the owner of this fine beast. He asked every girl in the village to mount the animal but the horse only reared and not one of them was able. Finally he came to Cinta’s house at the edge of the forest. The two cousins pushed Cinta aside as they hurried to meet the prince. They tried to climb onto the horse but he only tossed them into the thorny bushes. Cinta ran to help the two girls out of the prickly branches and as soon as the beautiful, black stallion saw her, he whinnied with joy and gently nudged her up into the fine saddle on his back. The prince was delighted to find the owner of this rare animal, and was touched by Cinta’s caring and helpful nature. He always dreamed he would find a humble lady, sweet and kind so they married and lived happily ever after.
Discussion: Ask the audience what the story means. What do we learn from this tale? What does “noble” mean?
Explanation: If we try to improve ourselves with excellent behavior, we will bring happiness to ourselves and others.
